On the 2nd of April, 2020, we started a house to house community outreach. We mapped out strategic places where people gather to give the right information about Covid-19 and how to prevent it. We started with Imafon community where we visited households, shops, and sawmills.
During the same week, we visited Ilado and Igushin community sharing the same message.
So far we have reached out to 35 households (about 2000 people) debunking the myth that drinking gin (ogogoro) is one of the preventive measures for fighting against the virus. Some people also believed that overdosing in chloroquine will help. These myths informed why we reached out to the community with the right information and also pasting information materials in designed areas in the community where we were permitted to.
Our goal is to see that the people within these rural communities get the right information. We are also hopeful that we will be able to provide some households and strategic spaces within the community with buckets having taps as well as soaps to remind them to always wash their hands.
We need your support to be able to reach out to more communities, kindly click here to donate. Together we can make the world a better place!
