The best time to plant your own food is now. We are encouraging households within the communities we serve to have home gardens. We hope this contributes to providing food items for households during and after this crisis.
One of the biggest issues faced at this time is access to food. If the idea of home gardens is accepted and practiced, it will contribute to making food available and accessible. We hope to be able to show members of the community we serve, how to make use of a small space to plant different vegetables. We will also be showing them how to use waste materials like pet bottles, sacks, and tires to plant.
Within the garden space in the office, we have planted green vegetables, pepper, tomatoes, and maize. This way, the women we work with are sure of having healthy vegetables on a weekly basis for their families.
To grow this idea, we need to ensure that seeds, watering cans, and some basic tools are available to be distributed to interested households.
