With the support of student volunteers from University College in Palayam, Trivandrum, Durian participated in the 2017 Exhibition for social change organized by Kanthari Institute India, on November 17, 2017. The event was organized by Kanthari Institute to create an exchange of ideas between the students of University College in Palayam, Trivandrum and the 2017 kanthari participants.
The founder of Durian, Tony Joy is one of the 2017 kanthari participants. At kanthari through a tailored leadership training she is being equipped with skills needed to realize sustainable social change.
The exhibition event was also organized to inform the general public about kanthari talks which are to take place between the 12th and 13th of December, 2018.
The event was colored with activities such as dance, flashmob, and music performances while students of the college, as well as their teachers, visited the Durian Stall and other NGO stalls to learn about our unique projects.
The event can be said to be the first public appearance of the organization in 2017, while the second main appearance will be at the kanthari talks.
At Durian, we believe that rural is cool, hence through every knowledge gained at kanthari institute, we are taking actions to empower rural communities in Nigeria to be self-sufficient through transforming their local waste into value while also regaining their dignity.
We have a dream that one day rural will no longer mean poor and marginalized but will mean cool and creative.
